New Ear Created From Ribs, Mumbai Mirror

New ear created from ribs

A 27-year-old banker who lost his left ear in a horrific road accident in June has had a new one created from his ribs. Amit Ghosh, from Kolkata, was discharged from Fortis Raheja Hospital in Mahim on Wednesday after recovering from the reconstruction surgery.

Doctors used cartilage from his ribs to create the ear, and Ghosh said that it looked "as good as a real one".

"I was really worried that the reconstructed ear would look different. But when I looked into the mirror after the surgery, I could not believe it — the new ear looks just like the original," Ghosh said. "I am relieved."
